Academic position in Didactics of History (starting October 1st, 2013)
At the Faculty of Arts (KULeuven) a full-time academic staff position is available in the field of History Didactics.
Tasks
Teaching
Accepted applicants will take on teaching responsibilities within the Specific Teacher Training Program in History, Arts and Music (O0A26A Teaching Methods: History, Arts and Music, partim, 6 stp.; O0A27A Preparatory Teaching Practice Seminar: History, 6 stp.; O0A31A Teachig Practice: History I, 10 stp.; O0A 34A Teaching Practice; History II, 20 stp.). They are expected to meet academic teaching standards regarding content level and orientation. A commitment to the quality of the Teacher Training Program as a whole equally belongs to the requirements.
Research
Successful candidates will be expected to develop a research program of their own, to achieve a scientific output that adheres to international standards and to support and further expand national and international research collaborations in the domain of history didactics.
Service
Applicants should be willing to take on responsibility in organizing post-graduate education within the framework of the Leuven Academic Centre for Professional Development in Education. They are also prepared to take up other responsibilities in the field of history as a teaching subject.
Requirements
Candidates should hold a PhD in History. They are expected to have an excellent research record, very good teaching and training skills and the capacity to coach a team of teaching assistants. They should have demonstrable affinity with history as a secondary education subject and/or hold a teacher training degree.
At KU Leuven the main language of instruction is Dutch. Successful applicants, who are not proficient in Dutch, will be provided language training in order to be able to also teach in Dutch within three years’ time. English proficiency is expected of all applicants.
Candidates are required to include in their application file (1) a short research proposal (max. 2 pages), as well as (2) a document in which they briefly develop their view on academic teaching (max. 2 pages). These texts may be written in Dutch or English.
