Colloque international: Lustre perdu.
Abdijmuseum Ten Duinen 1138 (Coxyde, Belgique)
Mercredi 2 octobre 2013 – vendredi 4 octobre 2013
- des collections archéologiques de vitrages dans l’Europe du Nord-Ouest ;
- de la contribution des recherches scientifiques appliquées dans le cadre d’une étude interdisciplinaire innovante ;
Call for poster sessions proposals :
Are you involved in an interesting project or in an area of work that you would like to discuss with or show to other congress attendees? Why not present your work in one of the two poster sessions at the ‘Lost Luster’ congress of the Abbey museum Ten Duinen 1138? This is an ideal opportunity to present your work in an international conference and to be exposed to the most recent developments in the research on archaeological window glass.
We are pleased to invite you to submit your proposal in one of the two following poster sessions:
1. October 3rd, 2013 –“Archaeological collections of window glass and applied scientific research”
What about the state of the art about archaeological collections of window glass in North Western Europe? How can applied scientific research contribute to the research on these collections? In which way can optical and chemical research advance the evaluation of archaeological window glass? How to conserve this material often overlooked and poorly stored in the past? How do you manage an amount of window glass (expected or unexpected) amidst an archaeological campaign?
2. October 4th, 2013 – “Production, exchange and social value of window glass between the 10th and 18th c.”
What do these collections tell about the use of it in churches, cathedrals, abbeys and profane buildings? Can we reconstitute and visualize the lost luster of the stained glass windows from the past, starting from the excavated fragments? What do we know about the production of the material in North Western Europe? What do we know about the trade, use and reuse of glass? In what way was window glass used for gift, exchange or memory purposes? Did Cistercian monks produce the glass they used themselves or did they order it?
The deadline for the proposals for the poster sessions is August 1st, 2013.
