Appel à contributions – Kings & Queens 3 : Entourage

The conference will take place July 11-12, 2014 at the University of Winchester (UK). We are delighted to announce that our keynote speakers will be Philip Mansel and Clarissa Campbell Orr.

Our theme examines ‘entourage’ in the literal sense of the word, i.e. those around the ruler. This could include courtiers, councillors, cousins (and other members of the royal family), consorts and contemporaries-those of the same generation. Other possibilities include examinations of the roles of favourites, mistresses and servants and considerations of the ability to gain access the ruler. This theme allows participants to look at a wide range of topics relative to court studies, political history, women’s and gender studies, art history, archaeology, architecture or literature. Papers from any temporal or geographic context are warmly welcome as are papers from established scholars, early career researchers, graduate students and independent scholars. Please send a proposal of approximately 250 words for a single paper or up to 500 words for a panel proposal to monarchyconference@gmail.com by December 31, 2013.
