Doctoral Candidate in the field of History (M/F)

Full-time, 40 hrs/week
Fixed term contract: 14 months, extendable to 36 months
The successful candidate will be based in the research unit Identités, Politiques, Sociétés et Espaces (IPSE), working within the Institute for History. Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Michel Margue, the candidate will have the opportunity of completing a doctoral thesis in the area of Medieval European History as a contribution to the project “Lotharingia Pontificia” entitled: “The Role of the Papacy in the History of Lotharingian Monasteries (9th – 13th centuries)”.

Your Role
- Completing a doctoral thesis on the relationship between the papacy and the development of monasteries in upper and central Lotharingia (10th – 12th centuries) (precised title to be determined).
- Participation to the IPSE Doctoral School
- Preparation of scholarly publications (conference papers, articles, etc.) in connection with the research area
- Assistance in the organisation of seminars, conferences, and other research-related events
- Teaching in the Bachelor en Cultures européennes (History) and the Master in European History (30 – 60 teaching Units)
- Tutoring students
- Participation in grading examinations

Your Profile
- Master’s degree in History; having already worked on a subject within the field of medieval monastic, papal or Lotharingian history will be an advantage.
- Excellent written and spoken proficiency in German and/or French. Proficiency in English would be an advantage.
- Doctoral thesis written in German or French.
