Colloque – Colloque annuel de la Southeastern Medieval Association (SEMA)

The theme of this year’s meeting is “Holy City,” an appropriation of its bespired host city’s nickname. The Organizing Commit- tee invites proposals for papers that explore, from any disciplinary perspective, any aspect of the joining of the sacred and the urban in any medieval religious culture. “Holy City” may mean a place (e.g. Jerusalem, Rome, Mecca), a community, a con- cept. It may be real or imagined, theoretical or practical, coherent or confused, even inverted by vice and profanity. Interpret broadly and creatively. Proposals on other medieval topics, including teaching medieval culture, are also welcome.

Submit proposals for sessions and individual papers at https://goo.gl/forms/NBhDdVYBUgPSBGG92 no later than June 12, 2017. Send questions and concerns to sema2017citadel@gmail.com.

The Organizing Committee thanks the following for their generous support: from the Citadel, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Henry and Jenny Johnson Endowment; from the College, the School of the Arts, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Languages, Cultures, and World Affairs, and the Departments of History and Art History.
