The János Bak Research Fellowship board offers awards of 2000 EUR each to support study in one of the medieval tracks in Historical Studies at CEU. This grant was established in honor of Professor János M. Bak (1929-2020) (click here for a podcast recorded with Prof. Bak). The funding is intended to cover part of the costs associated with studying in Vienna for any applicant with a particular interest in the medieval and early-modern history of Central, East-Central and Eastern Europe. Award-winners in the 2-year program will have their awards renewed for the second year of study, subject to the successful defense of the thesis prospectus and a GPA above 3.75.
Application process:
– A completed application for either the one-year or two-year MA program in Historical Studies, Late Antique and Medieval track (proof of submitted application necessary)
– A letter (up to 300 words) explaining the applicant’s interest in the history of medieval Central, East-Central and Eastern Europe, and how they are going to make it part of their studies at CEU. This may include plans for the MA thesis topic.
– A short CV (can be the one submitted as part of the CEU application)
Please submit all documents to bakfellowship@ceu.edu
