Symposium XXI for the Study of Underdrawing and Technology in Painting
In preparation for Symposium XXI for the Study of Underdrawing and Technology in Painting. The Bruegel Success Story. Creative Process, Imitation, Emulation, Workshop Organization and Business Strategies, the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK-IRPA, Belgium) and the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium (MRBAB) invite you to present an abstract on one of the following themes concerning the Bruegel dynasty, defined here as Pieter Bruegel the Elder and his artistic progeny:
Technical studies concerning paintings, drawings and prints by the Bruegel dynasty.
Workshop organisation and collaboration within and outside the workshop in relation to the Bruegel dynasty.
The role of patrons, collecting and the art market in relation to the Bruegel dynasty.
Research on new biographical data, especially on lesser-known members of the Bruegel family.
Research on the interpretation and reception of works by members of the Bruegel dynasty or sixteenth and seventeenth-century artists influenced by the Bruegel tradition.
This 2018 colloquium is the XXI Symposium for the Study of Underdrawing and Technology in Painting. The papers will be of interest to curators, art historians, conservators and scientists working on painting in the Southern Netherlands from the sixteenth to the seventeenth-century.
The authors of selected abstracts will be invited to speak at this international conference, to be held in the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium. The conference Acts will be published in 2019.
We would be very grateful if you would send us a preliminary title, short abstract (maximum 200 words), curriculum vitae and list of publications as soon as possible and at the latest by 30 November 2017.
The language of the conference will be English. We hope that you will support our efforts by telling your colleagues and students about the colloquium. Further information will be posted on the symposium website (www.kikirpa.be).
