Créé en 2003 par l’Université de Liège, le centre européen d’archéométrie, CEA, a permis de promouvoir et de fédérer les recherches afin de favoriser le développement optimal des activités en archéométrie et des réflexions méthodologiques qui en découlent. Soutenu par l’ULiège, de grands projets de recherches et des colloques internationaux ont encore renforcé l’équipe, mis l’emphase sur les compétences du CEA et contribué à sa très large reconnaissance dans et en dehors de l’Université.
Depuis 2005, un master en archéométrie a été mis sur pied et propose un très riche choix de cours dans les différents domaines de l’archéométrie. Cette formation, unique en Belgique, a diplômé près d’une centaine d’étudiants dont beaucoup sont à présent des acteurs de la recherche et du patrimoine.
Le cœur du centre compte aujourd’hui une vingtaine de personnes pleinement actives auxquelles s’ajoutent de nombreux collaborateurs. Leurs domaines de recherches recouvrent les secteurs de l’anthropologie biologique, de l’archéomatique, des arts du feu, du bois et de la dendrochronologie, de la conservation, du développement technique et des matières picturales. Depuis maintenant 20 ans, Les compétences et l’équipement du centre européen d’archéométrie restent à la pointe de l’innovation et lui permettent de maintenir une place reconnue sur la scène internationale.

Applications are invited to the Assistant Professor in Medieval History in the School of Histories & Humanities at Trinity College, Dublin.
The Department of History, Trinity College Dublin, is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in central to late medieval history (1100-1500). The post-holder will maintain research and teaching interests in medieval history, with demonstrable expertise and relevant publications.
The successful applicant will contribute to the delivery of modules at all levels of the curriculum, including supervision of BA and MPhil dissertations across a broad range of medieval history. Within the undergraduate History programme, the holder of the post will coordinate either the Religion and Society 1095-1517 module or the Hundred Years’ War module. At Sophister level, the post-holder will develop and coordinate one or more advanced modules arising from their research interests that complement those offered by existing staff. At MPhil level, the post-holder will have the opportunity to teach on the Mediaeval Studies MPhil. The post-holder will also undertake other teaching and administrative duties at the direction of the Head of Department.
The specific purpose of this post is to provide cover of an Assistant Professor post for the substantive postholder who is on a teaching buy-out for a research project. Employment is not offered on an indefinite duration basis as the original post holder will return to their role once the period of the buy-out is completed. The expected start date is 1 September 2023.

Le projet CHRISTINA met l’accent sur la dimension relationnelle de l’iconographie : la façon dont les images, quel que soit le médium utilisé (peinture, sculpture, métaux, textiles…), prennent sens en relation avec leur environnement, avec d’autres images ou dans le cadre des rites au cours desquels elles sont utilisées. À plus long terme, l’objectif est de stimuler une meilleure connaissance et une compréhension accrue du patrimoine religieux conservé dans les églises belges, en visant particulièrement un large public de personnes intéressées par son étude et sa conservation.
En tant que docteur en histoire de l’art, vous mènerez des recherches de pointe sur des aspects spécifiques de l’histoire de l’art belge et dans le domaine de l’« iconographie relationnelle ». Vous mettrez au point une nouvelle méthodologie intégrée d’analyse iconographique, conçue pour des spécialistes, mais aussi pour un public plus large intéressé par l’iconographie chrétienne. Vous serez en charge de l’organisation, la supervision et la mise en œuvre de projets de recherche aux niveaux belge et international dans ce domaine. Vous organiserez et participerez activement à des manifestations scientifiques (congrès, colloques, symposiums) aux niveaux belge et international, dans le domaine spécifique de recherche. Vous publierez des monographies ou des articles dans des revues scientifiques, des catalogues d’exposition, des publications collectives ou dans les actes de congrès, colloques et symposiums. Vous diffuserez et valoriserez les résultats des projets de recherches à l’adresse du grand public, par la participation à des événements locaux, des publications dans des revues locales, des interventions dans les média audiovisuels, des MOOCs, etc. Vous rechercherez des partenariats avec des institutions telles que le Centrum voor Religieuze Kunst en Cultuur (CRKC) et le Centre interdiocésain du patrimoine et des arts religieux (CIPAR).

The XXIII Symposium will provide a scientific forum for the presentation of new technical studies in art history, concentrating on art from the Middle Ages and Early Modern period (1400-1600). The conference will focus on the technical examination of art in a variety of media and supports: panel paintings, painting on parchment and canvas, drawings, cartoons, sketches, model- and sketchbooks, prints and manuscript illuminations. The main theme will be cross-media perspectives in the context of artistic materials, working methods, and the dissemination of concepts. Similarities in design might indicate cultural, social, geographical, or chronological connections in paintings, drawings, prints etc. as well as links across other artistic media. Recent developments in viewing platforms, artificial intelligence and machine learning can offer alternative possibilities in this research field, stimulate contacts and the exchange of experience, and form a bridge between art and science.
After the successful Van Eyck Studies (2012), Imaging Utopia (2017), Bruegel Success Story (2018), and Alla Maniera (2021) symposia, the 23rd Symposium of Underdrawing and Technology in Painting will be held in Leuven and Brussels and will coincide with the exhibition “Dieric Bouts. Creator of Images” in Museum M. The conference aims to stimulate networking and provides a unique opportunity for professionals to share knowledge and experience on important cases. It also provides a forum for the discussion of innovative developments in tools and methodologies for the study of artworks.
The working language of the symposium is English. The lectures will be published in the proceedings in the Series Underdrawing and Technology in Painting (Peeters Publishers). The abstract submission deadline is Thursday 1 June 2023.

S’inscrivant dans la suite du volume Les Pères de l’Église et la science médicale de leur temps paru en 2005, le présent ouvrage rassemble 9 contributions présentées lors du colloque international organisé à Sorbonne Université les 15 et 16 septembre 2016. Dans une approche interdisciplinaire, mais toujours fondée sur l’examen des textes originaux, elles s’efforcent d’étudier les liens qu’entretiennent les auteurs chrétiens avec les textes médicaux grecs antiques, notamment à travers l’étude des citations qu’ils ont faites de ces derniers pour alimenter leur réflexion, le relevé de notions médicales auxquelles ils ont eu recours, ou encore le lexique spécialisé qu’ils ont parfois utilisé. Elles analysent et comparent aussi le vocabulaire médical au sens large attesté dans les différents types d’écrits contemporains, païens et chrétiens, littéraires et documentaires, en vue de mieux comprendre le processus de transmission et d’assimilation de la science médicale grecque par la société chrétienne des premiers siècles de notre ère.

Dans le cadre d’un projet ANR (Imaginarm), l’Université Lumière Lyon 2 et le laboratoire CIHAM lancent un appel à candidature pour un contrat doctoral en Littérature médiévale/Histoire de l’art.
Le projet IMAGINARM vise à fournir une étude exhaustive de l’héraldique arthurienne. La recherche va explorer ce phénomène depuis ses débuts au XIIIe siècle jusqu’au XVIIe siècle, d’après ses trois canaux de transmission : 1) les textes où les armoiries sont décrites 2) les enluminures des manuscrits où les artistes ont peint des armoiries reconnaissables 3) les armoriaux (des catalogues d’armoiries) qui mettent en scène les écus des chevaliers. Ces sujets vont être abordés à l’aide d’une approche interdisciplinaire combinant les apports de l’histoire, la littérature, l’héraldique, la philologie, l’histoire de l’art, l’histoire du livre.
La/le candidat.e doctoral sera amené.e à contribuer à ce chantier, en s’intéressant en particulier au corpus des manuscrits enluminés. Il/elle va proposer une enquête interdisciplinaire, au croisement entre littérature et histoire de l’art/codicologie, portant sur le traitement de l’imaginaire chevaleresque, et entre autres de l’héraldique, dans un corpus de témoins illustrés de la fin du Moyen Âge. Le sujet de thèse sera défini conjointement avec les directeurs de recherche, et pourra être établi en fonction des compétences du candidat/de la candidate.
Le/la candidat.e sera inscrit.e en cotutelle ou codirection entre l’Université de Lyon 2 et l’Université d’Utrecht. Il/elle sera dirigé.e par Francesco Montorsi (Université de Lyon 2, littérature) et par Martine Meuwese (Université d’Utrecht, histoire de l’art).
Dans le cadre d’un partenariat avec la BnF, le/la candidat.e sera amené.e à rédiger pour le catalogue BnF Archives et Manuscrits (BAM – https://archivesetmanuscrits.bnf.fr/) les notices signées de manuscrits étudiés par lui/elle pendant son projet doctoral.
La personne recrutée doit être titulaire d’un master à la date de septembre 2023. Il/elle doit disposer d’une maîtrise dans l’un des domaines concernés par le projet et doit manifester d’un véritable intérêt pour la recherche.

A virtual conference hosted by the University of Pennsylvania and the Dance Studies Association’s Early Dance Working Group
What does it look like for historical expressions of dancing and movement arts to break out of traditional academic and performative boxes? How do scholars and practitioners escape the boundaries of discipline, chronology, geography, and methodology subsumed under the conventional appellation of “early dance”? Conversely, how can we demonstrate the ways in which our work complements and completes the work of other disciplines in light of these distinctions? This symposium explores early dance as an idea, a time, a place, a locus of cultural meaning and aims to draw together scholars working across disciplines and geographies who are nevertheless invested in “early” dance and movement.
We invite papers for this virtual symposium from scholars across disciplines, exploring aspects of dance and movement from all methodological perspectives, finding commonality in the antecedental nature of their work. Whether looking at the musical, literary, cultural, political, religious, or social contexts of dance, or expanding knowledge of its somatic and kinesthetic dimensions, we find unity in the chronological earliness of our work. We encourage papers that explore dance outside of Western European frameworks of knowledge and movement production, including comparative or transhistorical perspectives on pre-1800 or “early” dance.

Je beschikt over master diploma* OF hebt minimum 5 jaar relevante professionele ervaring, uitgebreid toe te lichten in jouw CV en/of motivatiebrief. Een PhD is zeker een meerwaarde.
Je hebt kennis van en inzicht in het museaal collectiebeheer en presentatie, specifiek m.b.t. deze deelcollectie.
Je hebt ruimte ervaring met het uitvoeren van kunsthistorisch en objectgericht onderzoek.
Je bent sterk in samenwerking, planning en organisatie.
Je hebt (passieve) ervaring met collectiedatabase programma’s.

La sculpture romane entre Loire et Méditerranée. Actualités de la recherche
Si l’étude de la sculpture romane apparaît dès les débuts de l’histoire de l’art en tant que discipline scientifique au XIXe siècle, des phases inégales de travaux se sont cependant succédé. Après deux siècles d’évolutions, les recherches universitaires actuelles se poursuivent mais elles se sont raréfiées, en France tout du moins, après les années 1970-1990, période particulièrement fertile en la matière avec les importants travaux de Jean Cabanot, Marcel Durliat, Éliane Vergnolle et bien d’autres.
Les spécialistes de la sculpture romane ont longtemps été isolés dans le cadre de leurs régions et de leurs laboratoires respectifs sans pouvoir se réunir autour de manifestations spécifiquement dédiées à ce champ d’étude. Le but de cette journée est de proposer un moment d’échanges des idées et de rassembler en une manifestation commune les chercheurs travaillant sur la sculpture romane. L’aire géographique choisie, de la Loire à la Méditerranée, correspond à un « grand Midi », constituant le foyer où ont été réalisées les premières études françaises sur le sujet.

The History of Art section at Radboud University is looking for a Full Professor of History of Art and Architecture between 500-1500 CE (1,0 FTE). The position builds on the section’s existing strengths, which includes visual and material culture of Europe after 1500 CE, architecture, and global modern and contemporary art. You are an art historian whose research explores cross-cultural connections and links historical research to contemporary issues and practices, such as cultural heritage. Our section is especially interested in scholars whose research and teaching expand or complicate the geographical and cultural boundaries of the ‘medieval’, who incorporate new methodologies, and whose interests include Islamic Art and Architecture, materiality and craft (including modern material-technical research), or the social uses and sensory experiences of works of art.
As a Professor of History of Art and Architecture at Radboud University, you will build on your robust and innovative research agenda, track record of outstanding scholarly publications, and other academic achievements on an international level. You will develop cross-disciplinary collaborations through innovative teaching and research, mentoring, and forging links with students and faculty across the university and beyond. You will contribute to the development of courses on all levels, teach both introductory and specialised courses, and take part in study trips, which are integral to the curriculum. You will also participate in teaching in Faculty-wide minor programmes, such as Cultural Heritage and the Public, or Conflict and Cooperation in the Mediterranean World.
At Radboud University, you will take on a leadership role in your field of expertise and present a strong vision of its future development. You will play a dynamic and proactive role in the Radboud Institute for Culture and History (RICH), one of the Faculty’s research institutes, contributing to its mission and research programme by participating in and further stimulating its research activities, publishing in high-impact journals and other research outlets, recruiting and supervising PhD candidates, mentoring junior faculty members, and applying for grants.
The professorship is part of the Department of History, Art History and Classics, one of three departments comprising the Faculty of Arts. You will represent the Art History section within the university and beyond, serve as its head in a rotating fashion with one other full professor, and work in close connection with its staff members and with the Department as a whole. You will be joining a university with expertise in Mediterranean Studies (both in the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies). You will be expected to serve as a standard bearer for student recruitment, and take on a crucial role in the promotion and visibility of medieval visual and material cultures, both nationally and internationally.
Profile: – You are an art historian with a specialisation in Art and Architecture between 500 and 1500 CE, who incorporates new methodologies as well as issues of cross-cultural connections and cultural heritage. You have a track record of international publications that demonstrate these interests. – You occupy a leadership position in your field(s) of expertise and have a global network of contacts in the academic and museum worlds. – You are committed to collaboration and forging connections between various art historical fields and institutes nationally and internationally, and between various sections and departments within the university. – You have been a recipient of important research grants and have clear plans for applying for grants in the near future. – You have ample experience in managing, mentoring and facilitating academic staff. You are familiar with the Dutch university system and are motivated to take on larger leadership roles in administration and management in accordance with the applicable rules and customs. – You are an inspiring lecturer with a strong teaching philosophy and experience in curriculum development at the undergraduate and graduate levels. – You have a university teaching qualification (UTQ) or an equivalent qualification, or are prepared to obtain a UTQ within two years.() – If Dutch is not your mother tongue, you should be willing to learn Dutch and obtain level B2 after 1 year and reach level C1 in the following year.()

We offer: – It concerns an employment for 0.8 – 1.0 FTE. – The gross monthly salary amounts to a minimum of €6,099 and a maximum of €8,881 based on a 38-hour working week, depending on previous education and number of years of relevant work experience (salary scale H2). – You will receive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. – It concerns a temporary contract of 18 months, followed by permanent employment after positive evaluation. – You will be able to use our Dual Career and Family Care Services.
