Dans le cadre du projet ERC ParaTexBib (« Paratexts of the Bible »), dirigé par Martin Wallraff et Patrick Andrist, un workshop est organisé les lundi 24 et mardi 25 juin 2019 à l’Université Ludwig-Maximilian de Munich, sur le thème « Pères de l’Église en marge. Traditions patristiques dans les manuscrits bibliques ».

Le projet ParaTexBib se propose de recenser, de classifier et d’éditer toutes sortes de contenus paratextuels accompagnant le texte biblique dans les manuscrits des Évangiles. Beaucoup de ces contenus portent l’héritage de traditions patristiques, sous des formes très diverses. Cette observation soulève la question suivante : comment les manuscrits bibliques (Ancien et Nouveau Testament) reçoivent-ils les traditions patristiques, les transforment-ils et contribuent-ils à leur transmission ? Nous nous intéressons particulièrement aux phénomènes d’excerption et à la question des méthodes et des intentions qui les sous-tendent. En quoi le sens des extraits est-il modifié par leur sélection, par leur éventuelle transformation, par la proximité d’autres extraits ? Ces phénomènes, mais aussi le choix des auteurs et des oeuvres, permettent-ils de définir des centres d’intérêt ou des projets théologiques, éventuellement polémiques ? Il s’agit en outre de voir si la présence de tels extraits révèle des usages et des publics particuliers : quelles hypothèses peut-on formuler sur la documentation disponible, et, partant, sur les environnements de production ? Les documents concernés au premier plan sont les manuscrits bibliques en langue grecque antérieurs au XVᵉ siècle. Toutefois, des contributions relatives à des aires linguistiques différentes (latin, langues orientales) sont également bienvenues.

Les exposés dureront 20 minutes. Les langues de communication seront l’allemand, l’anglais, le français et l’italien.

Church Fathers in the Margins. Patristic Traditions in Biblical Manuscripts

Within the framework of the ERC project Paratexts of the Greek Bible (ParaTexBib), led by Martin Wallraff and Patrick Andrist, a workshop will take place from Monday, June 24th through Tuesday, June 25th 2019 at the Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich on the topic Church Fathers in the Margins: Patristic Traditions in Biblical Manuscripts.

The ParaTexBib project aims to identify, classify, and edit every kind of paratextual content accompanying the biblical text in Gospel manuscripts. Many of these paratexts bear, in quite varied forms, the heritage of patristic traditions. During this event we would like to consider the following question: how do the biblical manuscripts (Old and New Testaments) receive patristic traditions, transform them, and contribute to their transmission? We are particularly interested in the phenomenon of excerption and in the methods and intentions that underlie these processes. How is the meaning of the extracts modified by their selection, by their possible transformation, and by the proximity of other extracts? Do these phenomena, along with the choice of authors and works, allow us to define centers of interest or theological projects, possibly even controversial ones? Does the presence of such excerpts reveal particular uses and audiences – can we form hypotheses about the available sources, and hence about the production environments? We are particularly interested in biblical manuscripts in Greek prior to the fifteenth century. However, we also particularly encourage

contributions relating to other linguistic areas (Latin, Eastern languages).
We welcome submissions in German, English, French, and Italian for 20-minute papers. Applicants are invited to submit an abstract (250 words max.), along with their title and institutional affiliation. Please submit your abstract by February 10th, 2019 to: saskia.dirkse[at]evtheol.uni-muenchen.de
