Offre d’emploi – Professorship (M/F/DIV) for Late Medieval History

The Faculty of History of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum invites applications for a Temporary Professorship (M/F/DIV) for Late Medieval History (5 years, W3 on the German Salary Scale) in the Institute of History, to start 1 September 2023. Afterwards, there may be the possibility of employment as a temporary civil servant (Ademische*r Oberraetin/Oberrat auf Zeit).

The successful candidate will be expected to cover the field of Late Medieval History in its entirety in both research and teaching on an international level. We are looking for a scholar who stands out through research foci which are both clearly defined and received on an international level and which also do justice to the wide variety of phenomena which characterise the Late Middle Ages in Europe. In particular, their reseach interests should fit in with the subject areas pursued in the planned Research Training Group “Knowing – Believing – Claiming. Producing and enforcing Truth in the Pre-Modern Era” and be conducive to carrying these further forward.

The successful candidate will engage in interdisciplinary and international academic work, participate actively in collaborative research projects and will cooperate with to develop new perspectives and projects for larger research networks as well as acquire the necessary third-party funding. This includes active cooperation with and furthering of the planned Research Training Group, the application for which is in the process of being prepared.

A high level of commitment to the faculty’s degree programmes is expected, as is national and international visibility of research and  willingness to participate in academic self-administration.

Requirements include a university degree in History, proof of special aptitude for teaching and research (generally an excellent PhD in a historical subject), a habilitation or equivalent academic achievement and international academic publications in the field covered by the professorship, as well as the willingness and proven ability to acquire third party funding. The candidate has to meet the appointment requirements according to section 36 ff. Hochschulgesetz NW.
