Offre d’emploi – One-Year postdoctoral fellowship: Relations between Frisia, Britain, Ireland, and Scandinavia (400-1100)

The Fryske Akademy and the Department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic (ASNC) at the University of Cambridge are offering a one-year postdoctoral fellowship.

The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to further develop and conduct their own research project on relations between Frisia and Britain, Ireland and/or Scandinavia during the early Middle Ages (c. 400–1100), with reference to history, archaeology, literature, language or a combination of disciplinary approaches. They will have the unique opportunity to develop their research in line with the expertise in both institutions, which should result in one form of publication or presentation and a follow-up application. They will enjoy the support of a mentor from each institution. We expect candidates to work independently, but have at least two meetings with both supervisors, one in Leeuwarden and one in Cambridge.

As part of the fellowship, the fellow is asked to organize or participate in at least one academic event at one or both institutions. This could be a (public) lecture or workshop or the like. The fellow is expected to deliver the outcomes as described in an agreed workplan, including the publication/presentation and the follow-up application.

The fellowship will be awarded for one year starting September 2026 and will be based at the Fryske Akademy, where the successful candidate will be employed. The fellowship includes a three-month visiting fellowship at the department of ASNC.
