Applications are invited for the post of Departmental Lecturer in Palaeography. This is a part-time (0.5 FTE) appointment for a fixed period of 6 months from 1 October 2016 to 31 March 2017 to provide teaching cover for Professor Daniel Wakelin during Michaelmas 2016 and Hilary 2017, when he will be on research leave.

The postholder will be expected to deliver up to 24 hours of Faculty lectures or classes on medieval English palaeography. Within this, the main focus of the Departmental Lecturer’s teaching responsibilities will be defined by the needs of the wider period group, but it is expected that they will include undergraduate lectures or classes for FHS Course 2 5a (The Material Text) and classes in codicology, material texts and textual editing for students taking the MSt in English Literature (650-1550 strand) and the MPhil in English Studies (Medieval Period). S/he will also be expected to offer up to 3 hours per week of tutorial teaching and to undertake dissertation supervision and examining as required.

The successful candidate should have a research and publication record in medieval English palaeography, and must possess a doctorate in an appropriate area. S/he must also have experience of undergraduate teaching; experience of graduate teaching is desirable.

Candidates shortlisted for interview will be asked to submit a sample of written work in advance of the interviews, and will be requested to give a short presentation as part of the assessment process. Two references will be sought for shortlisted candidates.
