The British Museum is looking to recruit a Curator: Dutch and Flemish Prints and Drawings to undertake research into and make publicly accessible the Dutch and Flemish prints and drawings collections in support of the Museum Operating Plan and all relevant Museum strategies.

The successful post holder will be expected to lead on up-grading the documentation of the collection of about 50,000 prints and 5,000 drawings. They will also support and improve the display of the collection both on- and off-site and act as an advocate for the Museum.

Educated to degree level in a relevant subject, or equivalent in experience, the successful candidate will have experience of research and publication and must have the ability to read Dutch. You will have some experience of working with a collection, ideally in a Museum environment and experience of a temporary exhibition or gallery refurbishment would be desirable.

We are looking for someone with open effective communication who can work with others as part of a team and develop good relations with relevant stakeholders. You will have some relevant publications in peer reviewed journals, as well as some experience of management issues including people, projects and budgets.

Le département privilégiera les candidats dont les recherches contribuent à une meilleure compréhension du développement des langues et des littératures françaises et romanes dans une perspective historique, morphologique et comparative. La date d’entrée en fonction est le 1er juillet 2020.

Nous sommes à la recherche d’un(e) candidat(e) qui pourra contribuer à l’enrichissement de notre curriculum et au développement de notre programme en études romanes ; consolider notre expertise dans le domaine des cultures romanes du Moyen Âge et de la période moderne ; mettre sur pied des projets collaboratifs avec d’autres collègues ; et s’associer à la promesse de la Faculté des Arts d’encourager l’engagement international et le développement des compétences interculturelles de nos étudiants. La charge annuelle normale d’enseignement pour ce poste est de 4 cours (12 crédits).

Un doctorat en études françaises ou romanes (ou équivalent) est requis au moment de l’entrée en fonction (1er juillet 2020). En plus de disposer d’un solide dossier de recherche et d’enseignement, les candidats doivent posséder une excellente maîtrise du français (langue maternelle ou niveau équivalent) et de l’anglais (langue de travail et de communication à l’Université de Colombie-Britannique), ainsi qu’une expertise dans au moins une des autres langues enseignées dans notre département (espagnol, italien, portugais). La personne choisie devra être en mesure de développer un programme de recherche original susceptible de mener à des publications et à l’obtention de financement, et participera à l’enseignement et à l’encadrement d’étudiants aux trois cycles.

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER IN MEDIEVAL STUDIES (2 YEARS, 6 MONTHS)

for a fixed term from 1 January 2020 to 30 June 2022. The position is associated with the Finnish Academy project Authorial Publishing in Early Medieval Europe (c. 400–1000), APEM.

APEM explores the act of publication. It seeks to establish the key parameters for the process of authorial publishing during the early Middle Ages. Its investigations focus on the activities of authors and their circles, as they made preparations for the primary stages of circulation. Its case-studies build on the relevant historical record, text-critical evidence, and the physical evidence of manuscripts. QUALIFICATIONS

The appointee will study authorial publication in Carolingian Europe.

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree and be able to conduct independent scholarly work. Solid knowledge of medieval Latin and manuscript studies is requisite. The appointee is expected to contribute c. 4 peer-reviewed papers (in any of the major European languages) on the subject of authorial publishing in Carolingian Europe. Precise research tasks will be defined in collaboration with the PI. The appointee will also contribute to the activities of the research project, such as teaching and assisting to organize colloquia. Good social skills and a pro-active attitude are naturally assets. The working language is English. The appointee will be based at Helsinki.

SALARY AND TRIAL PERIOD

Annual gross salary for a postdoctoral researcher varies between 37,000 and 43,000 euros, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience. The contract will include a six-month trial period.

Health care services and standard Finnish pension benefits are provided for the University employees.
